Hi all

I have 2 kids: 20 and 22; girl and boy. Both have been no trouble up to now and are both are at uni. Don’t take drugs and don’t drink drive or more importantly don’t get in a car with a drunk mate!

Should be over the moon and hanging from the rafters wouldn’t you say?  Just one small thing. Although both have drivers licenses the 20 year old girl is the only one with her own car.  Just one month from her full adult license and gets booked last night….half asleep coming home from a gig. (she sings in a pro band) Went 29 km over the speed limit. We work in metric in Australia.

In her defense the speed limit goes from 100 km per hour to 60 km way out of town before you see any buildings so naturally that’s where the radar traps are, and at 2 am in the morning there are no other vehicles around. Miss the sign you’re gone!

Second time whilst on P plates though and is set to lose her license for 3 months.  Means Mum and Dad have to take her to her part time job, take her to University, take her to her band gigs (could be 300km away) take her to work placement at a hospital 60 km away for a month and so on.

Boy am I pissed off, but my wife says “back off she has been a near perfect child and take it on the chin!” I totally agree with my wife but its hard not to get a little upset. What do you guys think?? Would you be upset?

Love to hear your thoughts

Cheers
Dave

Driving is like playing in a casino. Sometimes you win , sometimes you loose but the government always wins…..

What does loosing mean? smile As far as the government goes ......... people, do not steal, the government hates competition!

@ Dave, man I’d be pissed, really pissed. I’d be so angry I would be catching brown snakes. Reason being that if I was in your position, my license would of been revoked a long time ago and my daughter would of had to drive me around! So if her license got busted .... how the hell would I get to the casinos! Law enforcers ... pffff! No consideration for us!

Makes me think of a joke I heard from a mate abroad. He said in their country you are not allowed to park further than 450mm away from the sidewalk. A uni student did park about 460mm away from the sidewalk, so a officer walked to the parked car pulled out a measuring tape and measured the distance as the student walked up to the car. The officer asked the student if it was his car, and after acknowledgement from the student, the officer informed him and showed him that the car was 460mm away from the kerb and not within the allowed 450mm. He then proceeded to write a ticket. The student looked at the officer and asked him if he could borrow the measuring tape. The officer, thinking that the student was going to double check him agreed and handed over the tape. The student then went onto his haunches and measured the officer from bottom to top. The officer stepped back amazed and asked the student what the hell he was doing! The student then replied that he was just measuring the biggest turd he had ever seen.

I have kids in their teens so they will be driving soon. I’ll tell you what I think of your situation. Your kids will learn their own lessons. If you think she learned, then you should back off.

Funny thing happened when I was filling out the cheque for $380 for my daughters fine. I noticed the date was wrong on the ticket…10/2/2011… not just the year as that would have been understandable as it was only just 2012.  He had the wrong month as well!!

I nearly swallowed my pen as I thought this may be a way to save some money. I rang the gov department who handles the payments to see if we had a chance to get out of it.  He said if my daughter could prove she was not driving the car 11 months ago, at midnight then there was no way they could convict her in court.

So I did as he suggested and sent a copy of the ticket to them with a letter from my daughter saying she was not at that address 11 months beforehand.  Now we are waiting for a letter saying “forget about it” or one saying “see you in court!”

2012 just might be a lucky year!

I hope you are not living in Norther Europe as in our countries it is easier to get away with murder than with a traffic violation.  After all governments and the legal systems are not interested in public safety but mucjh more in your money…...  as soon as you try to hide your money from them or if they see a possibility to steal your money they will hunt you to your grave.
