Don’t know if there are any other Aussies on the forum but ‘Happy Australia Day!’ if there is.  My favorite public holiday!
Australia Day is here; ie 26th January although the northern hemisphere is a long way behind us…in more ways than one!!

Did you know that during the GFC Australia was the only major trading nation that did not go into recession? Now there is another GFC on the horizon and everyone is wondering if we can stay afloat during this one.

On Australia day we have Australian of the year. This year it was Geoffry Rush; ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’ guy. Does heaps of charity work is the main reason he received it. Plus he’s a bloody good bloke!

G’Day Australia. Wouldn’t live any where else for quids.

Dave (a proud Aussie)

I have long wanted to visit your fair continent, particularly the west (Perth) and south (Adelaide).  I fear that dream will not be realized, however.

Yea, Perth and Adelaide are great cities. Perth: capital of Western Australia and Adelaide: capital of South Australia.  However not great places to live because of extreme summer climates.  It’s summer here now and Perth and Adelaide have both had 40 degrees Celsius days; or in your measurements about 110 degrees Fahrenheit (and not much cooler nights) Too bloody hot for me!!

The east coast of New South Wales is where everyone wants to live.  A four hundred mile area on the East Coast of NSW between Forster and Ballina has been declared by many science organizations (eg CSIRO) as the most livable climate in the world. That’s where I live and the summer and winter climates only vary by about 15 degrees C. Employment is the problem here and most people’s kids end up moving to Sydney for work.

Further north is the Gold Coast (Queensland) which is a lot like Honolulu….very commercialized and lots of crime. Very popular with the young revellers.

Never been cheaper to get to the US these days with carriers like Virgin.  If you book ahead you can get a return flight for only about $1500.  Suppose its similar coming the other way, so there’s no real excuse for not making the trip down under.

Cheers
Dave
