My Grade school Was followed down this side walk after school by a crowd of mostly black kids as Daniel Rodgers was gonna kick my ass... We crossed the street and I ducked into the candy store. He followed me inside. In a complete panic I gave him a right cross right on his chin and watched him crumple into the corner. I hit the door and ran home.... Next day I was afraid to go to school and sure enough there he was waiting, walked up to me, said nice punch. We were friends thereafter. This is the swimming pool we used. 3 ft to 6 ft deep end. The door on the left is to the boys shower. On the right is the girls shower. I remember the coach trying to teach the black boys to swim. Many could not put their faces in the water. All us white boys who could swim a length were allowed to sit on the deep end and watch. We all did as well as some of the black boys. Some never did.
